Susan RoAne

Topic: CREATE YOUR OWN LUCK!

Susan RoAne is a bestselling author and one of the nation’s leading experts on business communication. Known as the “Mingling Maven” , she is a professional speaker who appears frequently on television and on the lecture circuit, specializing in keynote presentations to Fortune 500 corporations and associations. She has also developed courses in business and management at UCLA, UC Berkeley, and the Wharton School of Business. She has written articles for and been featured in newspapers and magazines around the globe.

PROGRAM: Have you walked into an event and felt uncomfortable? Well, you are not alone – 93% of adults feel the same way (members, vendors, politicians, family and friends). BUT, every event is an opportunity to make new contacts and meet clients, colleagues and vendors and establish connections. Those who are open to such opportunities are in a position to parlay serendipity into success and create their own luck.

When we know what to say first and break the ice, we demonstrate leadership skills as well as hospitality and make it easy for others to connect with us. Whether it’s the new member of an association, the potential client or current one or colleague who may partner on a project... or someone who is also a tennis buff, Cubs fan or on the board of a local charity, breaking the ice is the key to building a relationship.

PREMISE: Have you ever heard someone’s story and thought that they are so lucky? The good news is that “luck” is available to each and every one of us because people can turn random chance into runaway success.
RoAne’s program identifies the eight traits of people who appear to be very “lucky” but actually create their own luck. They not only invite more opportunity into their lives, but they act on it. We can do the same.

BENEFITS: Create Your Own Luck, is based on Susan RoAne’s book How To Create Your Own Luck (by John Wiley and Sons, October, 2004) and builds on her brand as the nation’s leading networking authority.
As a result of this presentation, the attendees will learn how to: Identify issues, problems and concerns that can be the basis for successful solutions; Be open to opportunity...see it, hear it and seize it; Increase serendipity by recognizing “small world” events, coincidence, and “You Never Know” moments; Expand face-to-face and online networking skills to increase options and possibilities; Turn that current situation into future success; Create your own luck by using the Eight CounterIntuitive Traits so you increase options and possibilities. As a result: attendees will leave with ideas, inspiration and a GAME PLAN.

BIO
Susan RoAne leads a double life ... as a best-selling author and keynote speaker… whose practical, informative and interactive presentations are known for her "dynamite sense of humor."

Susan jumpstarts a meeting, convention or event by getting people to overcome their shyness and utilize their meeting, greeting and ice-breaking conversational skills. As the author of the trilogy on communication (How To Work a Room, The Secrets of Savvy Networking and What Do I Say Next?) with over a million books – including audio books -in print, Susan's expertise has been cemented. Her most recent book is an ebook, NETWORKING: Beyond the Buzzword for the NEXT Level.

Susan RoAne's ability to share information, inspire and motivate started in her first career as a public school teacher in both Chicago and in San Francisco in some very tough situations. No audience nor venue is too tough for her because she used to teach 6th grade!

"How difficult can an audience be when they are 'dressed up', in a meeting venue and just finished croissants? Believe me, I have had the toughest… the defiant 12 and 13 year olds!"

As a frequent radio and TV guest, Susan has been on CNN, CNNfn, THE BBC, CBC, The Today Show of Australia, numerous local shows throughout the country, Great Day America and on 48 Hours. Because she is a recognized expert, she is repeatedly featured in newspapers, magazines and reviewed and quoted in such venues as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Crain's Business Chicago, Boardroom Reports, Financial Times of London, Cosmopolitan, Working Woman, San Francisco Examiner, Washington Post, Newsweek, Sydney Telegraph and meeting industry journals.

"Sharing the solutions for overcoming shyness, working a room, developing networking skills and becoming a good conversationalist is different than teaching the grammar and punctuation rules to 5 classes of junior high students. And there are great rewards in both arenas."

Susan RoAne received her masters degree from San Francisco State University and her bachelors degree from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and is a Fighting Illini. She is a supporter of her alma mater and is in the President's Circle.

Susan RoAne has been a professional speaker for over 21 years; sharing her ideas, techniques and tips for being more effective at communicating in rooms with strangers or with colleagues. Her client list reflects the many companies and industries where communication and conversation count.

Susan has been a guest lecturer at UCLA School of Business and Management, Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley), University of Chicago School of Business and Wharton School of Business.

She has "worked" meetings, conventions, planes, pools and even the bleachers at Wrigley Field. And she motivates others to do the same!

RECOMMENDATIONS
Your opening keynote set the pace for the most productive, enthusiastic and fun loving convention
