Jann Taber has been a rebel without a pause for years. At 19, she created a job for herself as a radio news reporter and anchor before taking her first college broadcasting class. When a local TV station said, "You look too young to work in television," she said, "Fine! If you won't let me report the news, I'll go out and make it."

Jann now has more than 25 years of experience working for and with the news media and has generated millions of dollars worth of free publicity for clients and employers.

She served as the news manager for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (Fortune 100) where she created and coordinated the company’s "Good News Bureau" and was as a company spokesperson. She provided strategic communications advice that helped the company through the energy crisis, as well as a hostile takeover attempt of a government-owned utility.

She served as former-Governor Pete Wilson’s appointed head of communications for the California Health and Welfare Agency, where she directed the PR for the largest state agency in the nation, with its 42,000 employees and $46-plus billion budget.

As a media consultant, Jann has applied her skills as the deputy press secretary and broadcast services news director for a former Speaker of the California State Assembly and press secretary for two assemblymen.

She served as the statewide news bureau director for several California initiatives, Assembly, Senate and local government campaigns.

Jann started her career as a radio reporter and anchor and has a thorough understanding of TV news, having worked for several television news departments.

She earned a Master of Arts degree in corporate and political public relations and a Bachelor of Arts degree in information and communication studies – with an emphasis in broadcast journalism – from California State University, Chico.

Active in community service and trade organizations throughout Sacramento, she is the a founding mother, immediate past president and currently sits on the board of directors for American Women in Radio &Television Sacramento Chapter (SacramentoAWRT). She has also served on the board of the American River College Foundation, Arthritis Foundation and business advisory boards of CSU, Chico Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Shaken Baby Prevention, Inc.

Jann is the visionary of the SacramentoAWRT Good News Awards, which recognize news coverage that furthers the triumph of the human spirit and provides over $35,000 a year to charitable organizations and student scholarships. She is a founder of the Small Business Development Center’s Women in Business Seminar series. She is frequently asked share her PR expertise on professional panels and roundtables.
